Re: Top 10 for January (plus ten-year comparison)
in reply to a message by Uilos
There was a lot of movin' and shakin' on my list for the new year, particularly among the feminine names. Some longstanding members were yeeted entirely, while very old favorites crept back into the spotlight.
Nicholas Edmond
Wesley Owen Rhys
Finn Gabriel
Donovan Leo
Malcolm Elliott
Dominic Adam
Jonathan Bennett
Thomas William Gray
Lennox Evander
Tristan Xavier
&
Sabrina Lily
Morgana Willow
Anya Penelope
Miranda Juliet
Elinor Ivy
Marjolaine Rose
Felicity Charlotte
Clarissa Violet
Alice Genevieve
Jocelyn Yvette
Thomas, Lennox, Morgana, Anya, Elinor, Marjolaine, and Jocelyn replaced David, Alistair, Tamsin, Scarlett, Sapphire, Caroline, and Zoe. I also gave Nicholas a new middle. Thomas has been in my Top 10 before, though with different middles; and while Anya is super new to my Top 10 (don't normally go for "nicknames that became standalones"), Morgana is a very very old favorite. I also toyed with Lyonesse as the middle for Anya instead of Penelope. I'm on my Arthurian Legend kick, clearly.
Honorable mentions go to Willow (now a middle), Phoenix (f), Elaine, and Tallis (f), as they were in my top names in the interim (I frequently vacillate between Alice & Tallis).
Back in January 2013 (my senior year of college - wow, does time go by!), these were my Top 10 for either gender:
Cameron Myles
Dominic Edmond
Everett Jude
Finn Gabriel
Francis William
Malcolm Thomas
Matthew Lawrence
Nicholas Owen
Richard Ellis
Rowan Wesley
&
Adele Valeriane
Brooke Romilly
Cordelia Wren
Erin Valentine
Julia Delphine
Penelope Nadine
Sabrina Charlotte
Ursula Miriam
Vivian Whitney
Yvette Linnéa
Look at Finn Gabriel right there! I would eventually ditch that combo and not return to it for the better part of a decade, but there it was in 2013. My masculine list is quite familiar, actually, both first & middle names. The feminine list is far more volatile, though there are familiar faces (so to speak): Cordelia Wren & Julia Delphine are combos I recognized right away. And it's nice to see Adele, Brooke, and Ursula here.
