Tessa
I love the name Tessa.I know that it is short for Theresa but do you think it can stand on its own? Also, as I don't particularly like the name Theresa, are there any other names for which Tessa could be a nickname? Thanks

I love Tessa also and Tess even more so. While I personally would use Teresa as the formal name because that's the way I am, I believe Tessa could stand alone. I know a woman named Contessa who goes by Tess. I can't say I love Contessa, though.

I adore Tessa!
I went to school with a girl named Tessa...not short for anything.

Many thanks for all your responses.I hadn't thought of Contessa before - it's an interesting variation - but I'm so pleased that so many of you think that Tessa can stand on its own.

Tessa is fine on its own. I prefer it over Theresa.

LOVE Tessa. My sister, Anna, was almost named that.

Tessa can definitely be a name on its own. I can't think of any names it could be short for that aren't related to Theresa (Terese, etc.)-- Sarah
