Tammy is too mid-20th century right now. very 50 to 70-year-old woman here. Tamara feels less dated to me and a bit more timeless. The Tamara I know (that is in her 50s actually) uses Mara occasionally as the diminutive of choice over Tammy. I think I prefer it a tiny bit.
