I'd be happy to meet a Dougal; don't think I ever have. It's a good name with a long history and no down-sides that I'm aware of - serial killers or neo-Nazis or whatever. I prefer it to Oisín, but where I live there is much more Scottish cultural influence than Irish so perhaps I'm just more used to it. I love Niamh, but only with that spelling. People can be educated! Clíodhna interests me. I knew a Cleone (kleeOHnee) at uni, and never got to the bottom of her name: just something her parents liked. Perhaps it's an attempt at making it easier for people to guess the pronunciation? Which isn't exact, but is close.
