Marlie seems over-cutesy to me, and like it ought to be a nickname ... for Marlena would be good. As a full name, I reckon it should be spelt Marley.
Sydney is nice, though it sounds a bit hard. I'm surprised by how fashionable it is in some places ... I only know one woman, in her 70s, named Sydney.
I don't think either of these needs a nickname. Marlie looks like a nickname already, and Sydney simply doesn't have any. (since "Sid" is more an older gent's name).
