Don't like either

I mildly like Polly but more so for a pet. I do like Pollyanna slightly more for a human. Pola isn't necessarily my thing. Paola appeals to me more. Or Paulina.

I don't care for Pola, but Polly is adorably vintage and deserves a comeback. It makes a great nickname for Mary, along with Molly.

I see Pola as more of a variation of Paula, instead of being a diminutive of Apolonia. I think it looks weird with the plain O. It's also an Indonesian word that means "pattern".

Polly on the other hand, is cute. I like how it sounds different from its ancestor Mary. I like Pollyanna too.
