I used to believe it was ugly and very old. But now I think it's venerable. I like Abe as a nickname a lot. The whole thing seems like a mouthful despite being the same length as Gabriel, a name that is also venerable and biblical. It's shorter than Alexander, which I think is kind of long.

It's OK but heavy; right now it's mainly striking me as priggish.I like Abe. It's a similar vibe to Gabe or Gideon, I think.I prefer Absalom for similar heaviness or maybe Abram for Abe.(Eta: oh, and I also prefer the Arabic/Turkish version; I just think it sounds nicer.)

I'm not fond of the "ham" part. I prefer the Spanish pronunciation, where the h is silent. The name has very heavy religious baggage, and I don't find the biblical Abraham an overwhelmingly positive figure. Bram is a cool nickname.

My first thought: a good name for an ancient wizard, wise man or scholar. But, this being said, Bram (nn for Abraham) sounds modern to my ears. Actually Bram one of my favorite B names at the moment.

Either an orthodox Jewish man or Lincoln.

Love it! It’s a somewhat “clunky” biblical name, but I don’t mind that at all. I mean, all my kids have biblical names and I have a Moses, so Abraham is my kind of name! As a Sarah though, I thought it could be weird to name a son Abraham.

I went through a bit of an Abraham phase a few years back. It's dusty and stoic - my kinda guy. And Abe is affable. I like it.
