Vera, Veronica and Véronique
Today is the nameday for Vera and Veronika in Sweden. So how do you like these names?
Vera - means true, faith and summer. But personally I just associate this name with women 60 years and older.
Veronica (Veronika) means "bringing victory" and "true image". I love this name. How come Victoria is so popular and the similar Veronica so unusual? But then Victoria is a royal name (the crown princess of Sweden is also named Victoria).
Veronique - I love French names, what more can I say?
"But it’s all right now.
I learned my lesson well.
You see you can’t please everyone
So you got to please yourself."
Rick Nelson, GardenParty
"It does not become me to make myself smaller than I am." (Edith Södergran 1891-1923)

I LOVE Veronica
and think Victoria sounds snobbish, although it seems to be (around my piece of the world) the name trashy people choose when they want to sound... well, better. They've gotten away from Tiffany, which used to serve this purpose.
All of which is just my perception, based on the place where I live and the people here with me.

Proud daughter of Ann and John
Proud sister of Lauren and Leah
Proud wife of David
Proud mother of Alexander, Scarlett, Sophia, and Gideon

I love Vera and think that with such nice meanings, and the fact that it is so sweet and simple, it should have a comeback. Or I could start one :o)
I like Victoria but I despise the nn Vicki.
Veronica/ique - Too many snotty rich girls in television and novels for me to feel attracted to this name.

John: Why do you know all this random, useless stuff?
Me: One day I will win a lot of money on Jeopardy.

Let's keep Veronica unusual, because I really like it as a middle name. (For various reasons I can't discuss on the intarwebz, I can't use it as a first name.) It's my Confirmation name, and I just think it's lovely.
Vera is really nice, too. I think of the Beatles' song "When I'm 64"--you know "grandchildren on your knee: Vera, Chuck, and Dave." :D
And Veronique is fine for someone else, but it's too long and prancey for my tastes.

Always remember the Fitz family motto: Believe in yourself, believe in others, and work like hell.
