Clover was the loyal, boring and respectable second child in the What Katy Did books, always sticking up for her naughty sister whatever happened. So that's my association with it as a human name. I don't know about it as a farm-animal name; I wouldn't like to be named after my favourite food. But Clover is a whole lot better than Muesli or Lambcutlets.
