Re: Thoughts on the name..

Who told them that Adnet means "son of Adam" in Hebrew? That doesn't really make sense to me linguistically.

In the book 20,000 names for Baby by Carol McD. Wallace, the name Adnet is listed under Adam. It doesn't give a meaning for Adnet but Adam means "son of the red earth" Thinkbabynames.com states that Adnet is a variant of Adam and means "earth" babynamescube.com has it's meaning as "Son of Adam: Man of Red Earth."

I know it sells better but it still irks me that baby name books do this. Clearly Adam doesn't mean "son of" anything, since "son" in Hebrew is "ben". I can understand the desire to make baby name meanings more poetic and cram some additional layers into a nice concise "meaning" but people then tend to take these way too literally. And I'd love to see a source for Adnet being related to Adam. Apart from people now finding it on websites that claim it is related and hence using it as such. The name itself, though, definitely sounds like an advertising company, and in fact there are several called that.

True Many baby names books and websites aren't particularly scholarly when it comes to name meanings.
