Sherry vs. Carrie
Which do you prefer, and why?

Sherry
I liked Carrie when I was a child but never met any and it began to seem creepy. I think of Carry Nation and the Stephen King book. Carrie also sounds like "care-y" and like "carry," and those things really bother me. Caro seems like a more modern nick for Caroline. Also Carly is better than Carrie.
Sherry seems bright and friendly. I've met many of them.
Sherry just had a popular sound, it was on trend, it's much more a nick for Sharon or Cheryl than it is an "alcohol name," and I think it's weird that anyone believes it is literally about alcohol. That's like seriously believing Everly is supposed to mean "in an 'anytime' manner" ...
Sherry always seemed to me like it's supposed to be spunkier than staid/traditional Sharon or Carrie, more hippie-laid-back than preppy Kelly, and "safer" or "classier" than Brandy.

I guess Sherry but I’m not wild about either.
I wouldn't use either of them. I have used Caroline for a daughter, but we never called her Carrie. Sherry is unpleasant; most people can pronounce Cherie and the others can be told how to, so that would be preferable to Sherry but still silly in its own right.
I'll put you down for Carrie, then.
Fair enough!
Carrie
It's less alcoholic.

Carrie. Sherry/Shari is too dated to the 90s for me, I grew up with a lot of them and none of them were great people.
They're both nice names, though fairly dated and also both with countless spelling variations. Sherry is an alcoholic drink for old rich ladies and Carrie got her period in the shower and burned down the town.
But I think I slightly prefer Sherry, it has a bit more liveliness to it. Also, Shari is my aunt who did the largest portion of my raising.
