Lyra
What is the correct way to pronounce Lyra? I like the look of it but don't like it if its pronounced 'lie-rah'. I'm looking for a name that sounds like 'leer-ah'. Any ideas/comments welcome!

I absolutely love Lyra. It's one of my two favorite names. I pronounce it as LEER-a, even though its origins suggest the lyre. After all, we pronounce lyric as leer-ic, so when I first saw the name I assumed it was pronounced as LEER-a.
My bf also really loves the name, which is amazing, and pronounces it as LEER-a, so that's an added bonus right there (for me anyways).

See what you think of this
Allyriane, related to Lyra via "lyre." I personally pronounce Lyra LEER-ah. Check this link from a few days ago. Not only did I post this to respond to Lyren, but also in that same thread someone mentioned Lyra (was it you? don't remember) and I responded with this.

I prefer it pronunced LYE-rah, but I'm usually in the minority there. Personally, I'd use Lira or Leera (hey, if Leela's okay...) for LEER-ah.
But if you like Lyra prn. LEER-ah, it'd work.

Lira would be pronounced LEER-ah, but it's also the name for Italian currency. :-/ I like Lyra pronounced LYE-rah, but I'm not even positive that's how it's supposed to be pronounced. :b

I pronounce it leer-uh
When I first looked at it I thought Leer-ah, because it resembles Lyric or Lyrical. I like this name a lot.

I believe the correct pronounciating is lee-ra, but I'm no expert. I don't know what other people think of it, but I have always been rather partial to the name after reading the "his dark materials" series.
There are two: LIE-rah and LEE-rah. I much prefer LEE-rah.
I would definitely pronounce it 'lie-ra'.
to get 'lee-ra', maybe:
Leera
Liera
Lirah
etc.
hope that helps
