Thank you for asking! I've just looked it up, and it seems to be a Spanish version of Newton.
I'm used to the X spelling; it seems to be more familiar internationally. Specifically for Catholics, but also for anyone who likes the sound and enjoys an unusual initial. Which is my problem with it: in the last few years there have been several international sportsmen named Xavier and pronouncing it Eks-Zavier. Which really puts me right off.
