I think Gertrude is charming and I really like the nn Gertie and love Trudy!

I'm more fond of Gudrun, Germaine, Brigitta, Simone, Sigrid, Rosamund, Winifred, Ursula, Matilde, Berthild (they seem a similar vibe) at the moment, but I do lowkey like Gertrude. Plus I think the vibe is vaguely similar to Minerva, Edwige, Kreszentia, Batsheva, Helga, Judith, Claudia, Septima, which I think are fun names, although old-fashioned and somewhat severe.

I went to a high school named after the saint for a little bit, so I've been called a Gertie before, and it didn't seem that terrible. Though I do generally like it most as a middle name and would prefer Trudy or Tru as a NN.

The saint is patron of travelers, gardeners, cats, and traditionally is invoked against mice and mental illness. Seems like my kind of person.

I both like these name and meaning.

The sound is undeniably quite ghastly, but it has many esteemed namesakes. I admire its vigourous and audacious nature, and brisk, old-fashioned Gertie.

I genuinely think it’s great but I don’t think it will come back any time soon, if at all. I’d go for Gertrude Alice or Gertrude Emilia.

I've never liked it. If I had to use it, I'd pair it with a prettier name. Although I'd prefer it in the middle name slot (to avoid it being the main address) I can't find any names that flow well before it, so I'm showing it as a first name in these combos:
