Regina - thoughts and alternatives?
I'd love to use the nickname Reggie for a girl. While I normally don't mind nickname names, I do feel like it is too far into being nickname-y. However, something about Regina doesn't appeal to me. What are your thoughts on Regina and do you have any ideas for alternatives?

I like Regina only as a middle name. Maybe Regan as a full name for Reggie.

I don’t like this name, but I would go with the “reg-ee-na pronunciation, and you can get the nickname Gina from it. The other pronunciation rhymes with vagina. Other suggestions:
Reese
Riley
Reagan

Don't really like it

What about Regine or Reginalda (preferably pronounced reh-ji-nal-duh, not reh-ji-nul-duh).

I think Regine brings up the same "want to like it, but don't quite" thing for me as Regina. Reginald for a boy is ok, but I don't think it works as well for me with the a on the end. Thank you for the ideas, though!

Quite like the name Regina, have to agree the British/Canadian pronunciation is not attractive and the American version is preferable, which is unusual. Possible alternates to achieve the same diminutive might be Regan (ree-gahn), Regia (reej-ee-ah), Rajiya (rah-jhi-ya).

I quite like Rajiyah!

I think Regina is very pretty. Especially the nn Gina. Of course, I don't like Regina pronounced like the Canadian city, which rhymes with vagina.
I don't like Reggie on a girl at all; it's just so aggressively, self-consciously butchy it's embarrassing. I like it for a boy because it has a strong association with athletes. (On a white boy it sounds a bit cliched-British-dandy, like Bertie Wooster.)John Grisham had a character in The Client named Regina, nn Reggie.

I appreciate the thoughts on Regina, but I wasn't looking for feedback on the nn Reggie. I like it.
