They won't be considered "cool" for another few generations yet, probably, and even then it will likely just be by chance if they are among the mid-1900s names that get a second wind.
I think they are both pretty names and they definitely do sound like sisters. (In fact I know a pair of sisters in their sixties named Linda and Susan.)
Neither one needs a nn, especially Linda. Sue makes a cute nn for Susan. I suppose Lin/Lyn or Linnie/Lynnie or even Lindy might work for Linda, but I honestly have never met a Linda who went by any other name.
