I've never heard of it before but I don't think I like it. I'm not a believer in "you can only use a name if you have a connection" kind either. (My mom gave me a French name without any knowledge of a French connection. Now, after researching my family history, I do have French ancestry but I feel like if I go to France, they won't believe me.)

Where I stand on cultural appropriation all boils down to the question of whether people from my culture ever tried to oppress, enslave or wipe out people from their culture. I’m not necessarily talking about a mutual, well-matched war, even though that’s still a little strange.
If you’re wondering if that means I’d be weirded out by an English person with no Irish heritage using an Irish name, the answer is yes. However, when the people are of the same race and geographically close the lines are fuzzier, fewer questions are asked and different assumptions are made.
