I like it. I know a few, it’s pretty popular. It’s like a sunnier, happier version of Kayla. But I would probably find it boring and overly cutesy if not for Kaylee Frye from Firefly, I think that character is the main reason I like this name and don’t see it the same way I see Kayla, Tayla, Hayley, Miley, Kylie, etc.

Yes, I have encountered more than one Kaylee as well as a Katelyn who went by Kaylee. I like the sound better than the visual aspect of the name. Since it has become popular more recently, it comes across as trendy and youthful.
Like Perrine, I think of it as a blended name, Kay + Lee. Kay makes me think of Arthurian myth and Lee reminds me of the Lee family in Virginia, so it is a masculine element combined with a surname to make a feminine name. I prefer Kay and Lee separately, but Kaylee isn't awful.

I like it. Always have, probably always will. I wouldn't use it, but I think it's a happy and friendly name.
Yeah, it is made up, but it's very clearly Kay plus Lee (or Leigh) so it does have a meaning. Same as Annemarie and Marysue have meanings.
I prefer Kayleigh I think because in Europe this is the standard spelling, after the song. But Kaylee is perfectly fine.
In the UK I find it less problematic to use because Kayleigh is way more common than the other spellings whereas even though in the US Kaylee is the most common I feel parents went for all kinds of spellings a lot more.

Most people these days don't think of Kay as being short for Katharine, just as a short name. I've met a lot of people named Kay and none of them were short for Katherine or a related name.

The Kay plus Lee thing is pretty obvious and even if some people didn't think of it it's where the name comes from and that is its meaning. I think many people do not worry too much about meanings but it still has one.

No Kaylee people in my life, I'm glad to say. It's such a babyish name, if it even sounds like a name and not a weak attempt to pronounce 'gaily'.
