I really like it. I presume you are talking about using it as a full name, which in my opinion is fine. I think it's a perfectly fine full name.

My boyfriend's actual FN on his birth certificate is Johnny...
I thought that was strange, but he was named after an old family friend. I called him John forever, and his family finally assimilated me into calling him Johnny :o)
It's ok. I use it all the time. But I wouldn't do it to my kid, simply because, imo, Johnny is a NN.

I like Johnny as a nickname for John--it has an old-fashioned rock appeal to me, lol. I hear "Johnny B. Goode" and "Johnny Angel" when I see it. :)
Overall, I still prefer Jackie, but Johnny's a great choice, too.
