Doris
Opinions on the name Doris? I like this name. It's old fashioned, strong, unique now, and unexpected.

It sounds really manly now that I think about it, but Doris is for women and Boris is for guys; I'm not hearing the big difference that others are hearing. Sadly, I don't like either of them. I guess I'm not a fan of most venerable names. So far, I seem to like Marlyn, Mariel, Marion, and not much else in the vintage slot. I love mair/mahr sounds in names. :)
It's too outside of the realm of names I would consider using but I do like it & hope it slowly makes it way into a comeback someday. It's "quicky charming" imo there are definitely worse old lady names to be had
I added Doris to my PNL a few days ago but removed it shortly thereafter. I like that it's kind of dreary and sullen. I only like pronouncing it like "door" + "iss" -- I hate "dar-is."
Doris Angelica is a combo I like.

I think it's venerable like Dorothy, Ruth, Frances, and quirky-cool kind of like Opal, Mavis, Iris but still can fall a bit flat or is dowdy like Phyllis, Bernice, Ethel (all of which I like, anyway) might be said to be. Its similarity to Dorcas and Boris probably doesn't help in the US, considering how those have been satirized (as dorky and boring).
I have met a Doris before.

I don't like it at all
It’s definitely old-fashioned and dated. With that being said: I don’t like it. On a scale from 1-10 it’s a 2 for me. Funnily enough the show I just watching (The Partridge Family), there was a fiancée named Doris.
I don’t mind old-fashioned names. Eleanor, Ruth, Margaret, Mildred, Helen, Dorothy, Gladys, none of them really.
Doris is just kinda ugly. I don’t know if it’s the D at the beginning then the ‘is’ part at the end together, but it just sounds kinda wack. I can appreciate the etymology a little, but there is nothing I like about this name. I would get into depth, but I don’t feel like being to harsh today.
