Name for a New Year's Eve pup
Hi, everybody.I will be taking home my golden retriever/Irish setter puppy at 8 weeks, which happens to be New Year's Eve. The litter is still very young -- I'm waiting until they have a chance to begin developing their personalities before deciding which will be mine, so the gender is still up in the air. My partner is Welsh, so we had previously been brainstorming Welsh names/meaningful words, and my cat's name is Juniper, so I'm particularly fond of all things nature related. With the revelation that this will be a New Year's dog, that's opened us up for a new genre of names: things related to beginnings, newness, dawn, gifts, etc. Some names on our list currently:
Aruna ("reddish brown, dawn") M/F
Caradog (I mean...) M
Cassidy (nn Cass) M/F
Cian (key-an, "ci" is "dog" in Welsh) M
Ceridwen (nn Cera) F
Emrys (em-riss) M
Iola (ee-oh-la, "violet colored dawn," bonus points for being the nom de plume of Ida B. Wells) F
Novella (nn Nova, "new," bonus points because I'm a writer) F
Novak (nn Nova, "new") M
Taliesin (tal-YES-in, nn Tali) M
Thalia (tal-ee-ah, nn Tali) F
Zorya/Zarya/Zara (Slavic feminine personification of the dawn) FLooking for opinions and recommendations of what else might be a good option for our pup!

Caradog! Irresistable. But, Taliesin and Thalia both shorten to Tali, which could be tweaked to Taily, and the pup will probably have a very glamorous tail, so ...

That is absolutely hilarious. Thank you for pointing out the pun potential of those two names.
