I don't really enjoy Margot, but I've got nothing against it. And I've known two Margaret people who use the full form regularly - one of them is my cousin. I much prefer that. The usual short form in South Africa is Margie, with the G as in Margaret or Gareth rather than Margery or George. And I dislike it thoroughly. I used to like Megan until it went viral, and I still like Peggy but it would be easier to just name someone Peggy rather than fight an uphill battle against Maggie and Margie! I taught a Peggy once, so it can happen.
