I like it! Gal is a cute nickname.

As a fan of the works of J. R. R. Tolkien and especially of the elves, I consider that any elvish name is precious, especially for girls. Galadriel is a beautiful name and portrays a magnificent elf, although I would go for a less "flashy" name, such as Arwen, Idril, Aredhel, Elenwë, Eärwen or Amarië.

But yeah, in general it doesn't seem like a bad idea to name a daughter after a fictional character, at least in the case of Tolkien's works.

Probably my top guilty pleasure name, now that Persephone is inching away from my GP list and towards my main list. I am obsessed with Lord of the Rings, enough that I've read the Silmarillion multiple times, had a cat named Samwise and a dog named Baggins, and tried to teach myself Sindarin in high school. It's a very pretty name in it's own right besides being the name of an amazing character, and I might use it if I could come up with some good nicknames.

But I think I wouldn't use them. I like LOTR but I don't love it. So naming a kid after something I just like okay would be weird.

Sounds quite pretty. The meaning is high-falutin' and very complicated. Used only be real Tolkien freaks; you can tell I'm not one of them.

Maybe Gala as a nickname?

I'm building up a "Name of the Day Namebank CAF" game and have been jotting down every first and last name since July. I've actually got Gandalf under the boy names.

Great for a character but I don’t think it’s very usable.

It's very pretty and I love all the Elvish names Tolkien came up with. Sindarin and Quenya are beautiful languages. I'd say I don't know how the name holds up but I know four Galadriels, spanning in age from 7 or 8 to their 50s, so... It would seem odd but I guess I'm used to it. I like it.

In my town, when the Lord of the Rings movies were just coming out, there was a trend in names from the movies in the BAs for years. Eowyn was the big one though. I saw so many Eowyn BAs lol
