Re: Elizabeth
My stepdaughter, age 8, is Elizabeth. To my knowledge she always goes by the full name. When she was born I asked her parents how they felt about nicknames. I got a chilly response. Then I said that I thought Bessie was a great nn. That got an even chillier response. The only reason I mentioned it was that my great grandmother was called Bessie. This was someone who spent her lifetime in the 19th century, because every woman seemed not to give birth till she was 40. I suppose Bessie now is considered a cow name. I've known countless Elizabeths. Up to a certain point they were Beth but more recently there seems to be more diversity in nns. Sorry, I don't think I answered your questions in an organized way.
