Neither common nor basic, at least where I live. I've only known one Miranda, who has never had a nn. My problem with it is that it shortens so naturally to Randy, which in British and South African English is not what anyone would want to be known as. So, though I like it very much indeed, I'd only ever consider it as a mn.
