I probably would put Katherine on the birth certificate.
I like Katie but because there are so many of them here in the US, it seems kind of generic.
On second thought I might put Kathleen on the birth certificate. Kathleen doesn't get the use here that it did a few decades ago.
A few years ago I met a little girl named Kathy. This really stood out because there are zillions of Katies now but there used to be zillions of Kathys. Somehow there was a change in the alignment of the cosmic forces and Kathy no longer was the go-to nn but Katie was. It's strange how these things happen.
My DIL is a Katy BTW. Her birth certificate name is Kathryn. She says Katy is logical because of the "y" in Kathryn. I can't argue.
