I'm in the US. I have quite a few friends that go by Katie (late 20s, early 30s). Some of them are Katy or Kati or some other variation of it as well. For most of them, it is short for Katherine. I do have one friend whose legal fn is just Katie. I think if I had to call my daughter Katie, I'd name her Katharina just because I think it is a bit more interesting than Katherine.

On second thought I might put Kathleen on the birth certificate. Kathleen doesn't get the use here that it did a few decades ago.

A few years ago I met a little girl named Kathy. This really stood out because there are zillions of Katies now but there used to be zillions of Kathys. Somehow there was a change in the alignment of the cosmic forces and Kathy no longer was the go-to nn but Katie was. It's strange how these things happen.

My DIL is a Katy BTW. Her birth certificate name is Kathryn. She says Katy is logical because of the "y" in Kathryn. I can't argue.

I'd use Katharine; DH would use Catherine! There are innumerable Katie people here in South Africa, the oldest being in their 30s I think, though I'm out of touch. And before them there were Kathy people. I prefer Kathy to Katie, and Kitty to both.

It's fairly common here in the US. Katharine.

I don't really have a strong opinion on Katie other than the one Katie I've known is absolutely lovely. I know soooo many Kate's tho (some Katherines some just Kate).

I hate Katie, I was up to my eyeballs in Katies at school. None of them had “full” names.

I like Katie, but only as a nickname. For a full name I would use Keturah.

I’d use Katherine. I prefer Kit / Kitty as a nn though.

I'd just put Katie if that's all I was going to use. It's okay, and sweet, but I find it pretty boring. Yes it has some energy, but it feels like another name to me.

Kathryn. It's an okay name. I guess, where I'm from, Katie isn't that well-known. Catalina, Katherine, Catherine, Kathryn, and even Katheryn are more well-known.

It’s childish and too sweet. Full name would be Katrina.

Catriona / Catrina is my favorite form of Catherine, but I'd pick Cat as a NN for any of those. I also prefer Kathleen to Katie and don't think of that as a NN or in need of a NN.

Katie is ok, but I'm not a huge fan. I'd prefer Kitty or Cat. I grew up with many girls named Catherine/Katherine or Kathleen who went by Katie. Not in US or UK.
