Harper
I loved Harper for a boy for a really long time, but it’s incredibly popular for girls now so I think if I were going to use it, it would be for a girl. It’s not that I care about the gender binary or dislike “girls’ names” on boys, I just think it would be a bit more straight forward. What do you think of Harper?

To me, as a Canadian, it still has "Conservative" (as in, the political party) overtones that I can't shake, because we had a Prime Minister Harper. So the name does not appeal to me.

This wouldn’t have occurred to me, thanks for bringing it to my attention. I wonder how many people here would have that association.

This is another name I cannot fathom why it’s so popular. Like Piper. When I hear it all I can think of if a male playing the pipe or harp.

I used to love Harper, but now it’s over used I’m loosing interest. To be fair, it was my grandma’s maiden name so it does have family ties to me.

I only like it for a boy, though I like Piper for a girl.

I like Piper too!

I dislike Harper and honestly don’t understand how it became so popular. Every time I hear about someone naming a baby girl Harper I wonder if they’ve never heard the word harpy or know what the harpies were. It just seems like a too easy and quite unsavory name to be called someday.

I agree. How it got so popular is a real mystery. It's harsh and unattractive.

I think harpies are fun :) And sirens and gorgons and witches!
