-phanie
I made a post the other day about a woman I had met a long time ago whose name sounds like May-Fanny. I had mistaken Myfanwy as having a similar pron, but I had been mislead ln that lmao
It was pointed out to me that the name I was searching for sounds exactly like the end of Stephanie.
Does anybody happen to know of a name with the beginning sounding like "May" and the end is -phanie or -phane ?

Thank you everybody!
I'll try and look further into the names suggested - maybe the social media profiles are proof of some of the name's existence even if we can't find anything elsewhere. There's several possibilities with this name / person:
- Her name is May-Fanny / Mae-Fanny / Mae-Fannie / May-Fannie
- Her name is Maephanie / Mayphanie / Mayfani / Mayphani / Mephanie / Méphanie etc and it happens to be insanely rare and unknown
- Her name is one of the above or a variant and it was made up by her parents
Some of these names came up with social media profiles so MAYBE #2 is correct, but one social media profile I have up right now (Facebook) states their name as "Maephanie" but their URL says "Melanie" so I'm not sure here. There's apparently a company called "VICTOR LOPEZ TRUST & MAEPHANIE P TRUST AGUTO EST" ....
I might go ahead and add it to the database. Maybe somebody with more practiced research skills and/or access to databanks can throw something up easier than I can

I think the name has been found!
Upon submitting the name, I found [https://www.ancestry.com/search/?name=M%C3%A9phanie&name_x=s] some records with the names that Impala suggested Mephanie and Méphanie. There's birth, marriage and death records there, mostly of French origin (for Méphanie) and US origin (for Mephanie) and they all seem to average the 1800s. I can't click on any of them because it's a paywall, but I think this might be the name my Welsh woman had :)

Cool
I have no idea, but
This is a comely ending for a name. I think I really like Théophanie.

I do really like the name Stephanie so despite that it's VERY similar to "Fanny", I admittedly really like it also :) It depends on how you say it I think - "Fanny" and "-phanie" come out slightly different, especially if "-phanie" is proceeded with a prefix like "Ste-" or "Me-" or, yes, "Theo-" is very pretty too (I'll be noting that one down - thank you)

In the US, there is a chocolate brand called Fannie May. It is possible that her name was just May Fannie or something similar.
The ending almost seems ancient Greek since they used -phone, which sounds similiar. While I found Melpomene, Tisiphone, Persephone, etc..., I did not find a Maphone.

Oh I wasn't aware of the chocolate brand - maybe she was named after it xD I just read into how the brand got their name and quite honestly, it sounds like quite the long jump to get your acronym FNMA to Fannie Mae but whatever lmao At least the end result sounds like a grandma who likes baking cookies so
Thank you for looking!

Perhaps a mispronunciation of Tiffany? That, plus your horrified mishearing of it, might just fit the bill.
Honestly, I'm still not discounting the fact that it legit just might be May-Fanny to be quite honest with you. But there might exist a name that happens to share some characteristics with Stephanie and if it does - maybe this was her name? If so, it wouldn't be Welsh (which is where I've been looking for quite some time)
Mephanie / Méphanie?
Thank you!
Both of those show up in search results as some social media, but there's no available information on them. Did you get them from somewhere?

I just googled different names that I thought sounded similar to “may-fanny” and I didn’t find much.
Only one that I can think of but not that close Amalfi
