It's kinda "meh" for me. I've also seen it used on girls, so I think that it's okay for women, too. While the Jaybird is cute, I prefer it as a nickname for names starting with J. I don't have any associations with it other than a female character in a children's book when I was little. I do know who Jay from the KubzScouts is, I used to watch him, but now I'm disinterested.
