Brooke vs. Blake
Both for girls.
Which do you prefer, and why? You can't say "neither".

I will say "neither" until my dying day. Sorry, but they are really on a par with each other, and I can't stand either.
Brooke. I don't like it, but it sounds pretty assertive-neutral, I guess. Like a boxy grey jacket.
Blake is Blair + Jake + flake.
It's like ripped acid wash jeans that cost $300.
It is kind of neat the two potential meanings are essentially opposite (pale and black), though.

neither!
zxcvbnm,
zxcvbnm,
Brooke! It's not a "pretty" sound, kinda surnamey/pretentious and businesslike - but it is somehow light and breezy. Like Lark or Britt.
Blake gives me a dated-television vibe. It's almost a parody of preppiness.
And its sound: Blehck.
I think Blair is nicer than Blake.

Oh man I like both. I'm going to pick Blake because it feels more current and I like the edge to it.
Brooke, but I don’t like either.
Definitely Brooke. It might have started out unisex, but it never got much use on boys and is and pretty much always has been known as a girls' name. Blake is sometimes used on girls, and I actually know a female Blake in her early thirties, but it's all boy to me.
Well, when I first had the idea, Millais' Ophelia came to mind, so I thought maybe Blake Ophelia, or even Blake Everett or Blake Millais. I rather like the idea of a trendy, brittle name like Blake Everett on-a-girl having more Romantic roots. Blake Reverie is so bad it's great.
In that vein, since I'm naming a person who will never exist:
Blake Saint Agnes Eve
Blake Rossetti
Blake Lovelace
Blake Nightingale
Blake Mnemosyne
Blake Lilias
Blake Eismeer ("sea of ice", from the Friedrich painting)
