Ross and Rachel baby names (friends)
I just watched an episode of Friends where Ross and Rachel are brainstorming baby names for their unborn child. They both suggest names the other hates:
Sandrine (Ross says it sounds like a chemical)
Darwin (Rachels says hell get bullied in school)
Rain (g)
Thatcher (b)
James (Rachel says only if its a girl, this was in 2002 before James on a girl was such a celeb fav which i thought was interesting)
Ruth (old lady name they say, Ruthie ross says is the best nickname)
Dayton
Stuart
Sawyer
Helen
Then Phoebe suggests Phoebe and Phoebo if it's a boy, then Veto.
Later in the episode Rachel gives birth and in the hospital they say they've agreed on a name and introduce the baby as Isabella, then they decide she doesn't look like an Isabella and their backup name is Delilah but then they still don't think it fits and in the end call her Emma at Monicas suggestion.
Thoughts? I think out of the names they threw around I would've gone with Darwin for a boy and Rain or Ruth for a girl. I agree with Rachel that Helen and Stuart are awful tho.

Emma and Isabella are so boring but I guess in 2000 they were super fashionable.
I just checked, in 2000 Isabella was at #45 so not that super common so at the time it would have been a nicer choice than Emma which was already at #17 and must have been really boring. So they shouldn't have changed it hahaha Isabella is nicer than Emma to me but I dislike both. Isabelle is nice.
Oh god James on a girl. I think it was a joke but apparently some celebs didn't get it and names their daughter James.
Rain is the best, in my opinion. And for a boy Sawyer.

I like Phoebe Rain best. :)
I'd also like Ruth Helen, but it does seem old-fashioned, and it seems a bit much for all of their names to be starting with Rs. Helen Geller would have sounded very similar to Helen Keller.
I kind of like Sandrine but maybe not as a first name. Emma Sandrine's pleasant.
I don't like any of the guy names. I guess I'd go with Thatcher. Thatcher Lewis? Lewis Thatcher? Lewis seems like it'd fit in with the other names, but I prefer it to all of the masculine ones. Although, I don't think Thatcher Geller flows well...
Did Monica mention liking Daniel? I feel like I remember that getting mentioned with Emma, but I don't quite. I think Danny is pleasant for either gender. Daniel Phoebus? Daniel Phoenix? Lewis Daniel? Those seem ok to me.

Yeah monica did also like Daniel haha
Honestly, I don't like James for a girl, but I think it suits them very well to have a daughter called Jamie. I think Isobel would have suited better than Isabella - even if I do prefer Isabella myself.
I agree that Sandrine sounds like a chemical, but perhaps Sandra would have been a better suggestion. One of the Alex names would have suited for any gender - I'm leaning more on Alexis for either sex scenario.
From what I remember, they made a joke about "Baby Ruth" which confused me for years and years until I found out that there's a chocolate bar of that name in America - so I can understand why it might have been put off the table... although I rather like Ruth.
I don't think Darwin would be that bad HOWEVER The Wild Thornberrys was a thing around that time so... perhaps the bullying would have extended to that too as it'd push the name into the children's immediate vision (but I'm just speculating obviously). If we're going for scientists, I think Isaac would have been a good option for them.
In short;
So I think James (F), Alexis (M/F), Isobel (F) and Isaac (M)

I seem to recall that Ross suggested Julia as well....I can still remember the way he said it! And I almost never watched friends.... Maybe I hallucinated it.
I totally could have seen them calling their daughter James. I'm still sort of surprised that Rachel liked such frilly names, she never struck me as that kind of person. I guess you never can tell!

I got a different impression from her. She was such a princess and such a daddy's girl I totally could have imagined her to go for those frilly, popular 2000s names such as Isabella, Olivia, Cassandra, Miranda, Marissa. I also could have imagined her going for some unisex names, but not as extreme as James, more along the lines of Quinn (sort of like the more modern verson of names such as Brooke or Paige).
I like Sandrine a lot actually, more as a MN but it totally drew my attention past all the other names they reviewed my first viewing. It makes me think of a waterfall next to a sandy bank. I enjoy Rain as well in a more abstract way though I prefer the Raine spelling when it is a name so it is more obviously a name over the word, I feel the same way about Skye over Sky as well but it's not a universal rule for me and nature names haha "just slap an E on there and call it a day!" ;)
I also like to imagine an alternate reality where they really did pick Delilah and Delilah became the Emma of today and shot up in popularity after the airing and remained there until today. Idk I think it's a funny imagine. They can be friends with Jezebel's as well perhaps haha!
