I'm starting to like it. I always thought of it as a clunky old lady name. It was my grandmother's and great aunt's name and I never knew anyone not from that generation named that. But now I think it's kind of sweet, Jadwiga is still a bit too heavy for me and I'm not in love with it but I think it's due for a comeback.

In Polish it's pronounced YA-ja but I like the Star Trek pronunciation as well and it obviously makes more sense in English this way.

I like it! The "normal" pronunciation is like YAD-ja, I think. But there's also an Anglicized pronunciation (jad-ZEE-a) which I like.

It sounds elderly to me - it's short for Jadwiga, a name popular among Polish women born in the 1940s and 1950s. My grandmother's name is Jadwiga, and she often goes by Jadzia. It's pronounced YA-ja.

Love the character, love the name. In Star Trek it's Jad-ZEE-uh. I'm not sure on the actual pronunciation. I thought it was made up until I did some research. If I had a partner who really loved it, I'd be tempted to cave and go for it tbh.

This name has two different pronunciations. As a Polish name, it is "Yah-juh", rhyming with "Raja".

However, it was the name of a character on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and she probably had babies named after her in the USA while that show was in its initial run between 1993 and 1999. There the character's name was pronounced "Jad-ZEE-uh", first syllable rhyming with Chad or Tad.

I think the writers on the show ran across the Polish name and thought it would be great for their alien Trill character, without knowing how it was pronounced in Poland. There was another character on the show named Nerys, which is a Welsh name which I believe rhymes with "Ferris" in Wales, but on the show that was pronounced "neh-REESE".
