Re: Thane and Thalia
If I had a Thane and a Thalia, and I were determined to have alliteration, another son would be Theo or Thor. A daughter would be Thea, I guess; I don't like any other Th- girls name that much. Thane as a name sits oddly with me. I like the sound, and it's a namey sound, like Shane. But I do get a MacBeth association when I look at it, and probably because it's not a common word, I keep feeling like someone's lisping when I hear it. Thalia I love. My middle school science teacher was named Thalia, and she was great. It sounds airy to me, and I like the Greek Muse association.*****
And last of all an Admiral came,
A terrible man with a terrible name,—
A name which you all know by sight very well;
But which no one can speak, and no one can spell. Robert Southey, "The March to Moscow"
