Magdalena
Ahh, Magdalena... this name is just so sweet and vintage, and currently my Guiltiest Pleasure in my PNL.
I don't mind the association with the biblical character, and I love the 1985 song by Sandra. However, 'magdalena' is the Spanish word for 'muffin' and I don't find that amusing...
Also, this name is really dated in the Spanish-speaking world (as well in the English-speaking world, but it can be found in the American popularity chart in the last years). In fact, the average age of the bearers in Spain is 62, but I don't mind that, I hope this name gets popular again. :)
My favourite nickname is Lena - it's simple yet elegant. I also like Magda and Maggie.
I would use these middle names:
Magdalena Aster
Magdalena Elle
Magdalena June
What do you think of this name and what nicknames and middle names would you use?

Magdalena is a name I've recently really come to appreciate. I was reminded of it when Magdalene was the name of the day (and I made a post about it: https://www.behindthename.com/bb/baby/5257156) at the beginning of the month. While I'm not a fan of Maggie, that's certainly a nickname possibility here, along with Magda, Della, and Lena (LAY-nuh, which I'd likely use).
My late Aunt Bert had a sister named Magdalena, who I only met at my aunt's funeral (she was aunt by marriage), and briefly at that. For years I'd thought Bert had been short for Roberta, but one of the last times I'd seen her she confirmed her real name was, in fact, Bertha (which she hated). Anyway, I remember on the ride home from the funeral my stepmom wondering out loud, "Bertha and Magdalena... who does that to their kids?!"
While I agree with my stepmom on Bertha (it sounds like "birth" - sorry, Aunt Bert), I think Magdalena is gorgeous. Right now I'm using it as a middle, but:
Magdalena Louise (extra-retro)
Madgalena June (I do like this one)
Magdalena Joan
Magdalena Jade
Magdalena Rose
Magdalena Tess
Magdalena Blair
Magdalena Clara
Magdalena Carys
Magdalena Celeste
Magdalena Daphne
Magdalena Delphine
Magdalena Lourdes
Magdalena Hera
Magdalena Juniper
Magdalena Vesper
Magdalena Lydia
Magdalena Phaedra
Magdalena Saffron
Magdalena Sydney
Magdalena Lindsay / Magdalena Lindsey
Magdalena Tatienne
Magdalena Talitha
Magdalena Tamara
Magdalena Xanthe
Magdalena Xenia
Magdalena Zinnia
Magdalena Zelda
Magdalena Zelma
Magdalena Selma
Magdalena Salma
Magdalena Lavender (there's a post about Lavender below, which made me think of this)

It's okay, it always sounded a bit strict and mean to me to be honest.
I much prefer Magdalene which I find sweet and very pretty.
Lena is really common here so I find it boring. Also I think it works on its own. Magda is so harsh and I find Maggie boring.
June is cute but I feel they all don't work well next to the overwhelming Magdalena.
I would use Magdalene, no nickname.
