I really don't like it, it seems to "heavy" for a child.
I have a great Aunt Bernice the name suits her, she's funny and a little wacky.

There's something about Bernice that just doesn't appeal to me. I can't put my finger on it though. On a side note, my aunt's name is Bernice and everyone pronounces it ber-NEES except for my grandpa who pronounces it BER-nis half the time.

I prefer Berenice. It's a nice name, but I agree that there's too... something about it which is why it's never been on my favourtie name list, even though I really like the myth of Berenice and her hair. Combo suggestions: Berenice Marianne
Berenice Cecilia
Berenice Claudia
Berenice Daphne
Berenice Cordelia
Berenice Victoria
Berenice Amabel
Berenice Deirdre
Berenice Ophelia
Berenice Dorothea
Berenice Lucia
Berenice Winifred
Berenice Philippa

OopsI accidently used Berenice instead of Bernice in the combos. Didn't mean to!

Bernice reminds me of Bert's pet pigeon on Sesame Street. that's the only association I have. I think it could be cute, though. it's similar to Denise, but has a character of its own.

I like it. It won't be making a comeback soon, though. Maybe wait 10 years or till some big celebrity picks it up ;) For now, I prefer Berenice or Bernadette.
If you use Bernice now, she would need a "hip" middle name, something that people didn't used so much when Bernice was most popular. Bernice Olivia maybe?

I do not care for Bernice although I do know some nice women named this. It seems so old ladyish. I do love Bernadette though. I love the actress Bernadette Peters and that may be why I love it!

It's the "type" of name I like, but I can't help but think of a crazy old lady. :b I like Bernadette MUCH more. BTW, I grew up watching "Designing Women" and there was a character named Bernice who was their friend. She was older, though not quite elderly, but she was crazy and even lived in an institution (I think) and visited the ladies every now and again. I just remember laughing uncontrollably whenever she was on screen--like once when someone gave her a Christmas tree skirt as a gift, and she wore it to a Christmas party. :) That's the only Bernice I've ever known of, so that association is burned into my brain. LOL!

Gawd, she was funny. I remember that skirt too. She played one of Samantha's aunts on Bewitched didn't she? Aunt Clara, I think.

Wow, you're good. I had to look that up on imdb. :b She was on "Bewitched" (I think I remember seeing her, now that you mention it) but her name was Esmeralda. It doesn't say whether she was an aunt or not. Her name is Alice Ghostley and she's 80 years old now! SHe's done a TON of tv work over the years. Very cool. I think she'll always be Bernice in my twisted head, though. :)

Did you see the movie "Hope Floats?" The little girl is named Bernice and she's very cute. Harry Connick Jr.'s character calls her, "that crazy Bernice." I love seeing names come back to life so I'm all for naming a little girl Bernice. For a mn, how about:Bernice Amelia
Bernice Evelyn
Bernice Catherine
Bernice Charlotte
Bernice Henrietta
Bernice Imelda
Bernice Veronica
Bernice Johanna
Bernice Patricia
Bernice Eleanor(a)
Bernice Matilda
Bernice Margaret
Bernice Joan
Bernice Virginia
Bernice Rosalind
Bernice Cassandra
Bernice Isidora / Isadora
Bernice Theodora
Bernice Irene

Bernice is okay, it just sounds a bit old. I like Bianca better.
Bernice would be alright but only use it if you really love it and don't mind a little critisisim from others. As for nicknames there's the obvious Bernie, then what about Nice (like nee-s or nee-see). Ice or Icy would also work. Berry would too.I hope this helps!
