Re: Malina

I personally hate it. I have a very strong automatic reaction to it, it's so sticky and dense. This name, although rarely, is sometimes given to Polish children and I just don't get it. Yes, it's a nice, tasty fruit, but the word is horrible. And it's not just the sound itself, although I dislike that as well. It's that it's one letter away from "melina" ("crack house"), and the only reasonable and therefore probably unavoidable diminutive is Malinka which means "hickey", and I suppose people don't tell jokes nowadays as they used to but Malinowski is the typical subject of some traditional jokes. My mind associates so many things with this word, it becomes jumbled and heavy. If I force myself to pronounce it with a different accent or changing the vowels slightly, then I guess I can see how it could be pretty. It's ruined for me, though.
I think it may be fun as a nn but as a full name it just bothers the hell out of me.
