What do you think of Dougal? It really don’t like it.

Douglas is better. Much better. I'd take that any day over Dougal. It also reminds me of the dog from the Magic Roundabout, where he was friends with all these animals and a wizard called Zebedee. What a funfest that was...

I have a standard poodle named Dougall. Sounds like a dog's name to me.

I enjoy saying it. It seems kind of like Roger - dorky, outgoing ... or potentially handsome and intrepid though currently unfashionable - but more Scottish.

I have to agree. I hate the name Dougal. It's so ugly, and it sounds worse than my middle name; Dudley. Now, that's saying something, isn't it? It sounds like a very rare last name. I'd put it in the same spot as Quigley, a name you posted about before.

Not a fan in the least. It sounds laughable and unintelligent. A name fitting for an awkward and clumsy, bumbling idiot type. It also makes me think of the fictional dog and the laughably bad movie. Douglas is far better imo.

My son goes to nursery with one, but they spell it Dubhgall. It just makes me think of the character Dougal from the TV show Father Ted.

It seems old fashioned and kinda dorky, but usable. Like Reginald or Dermot. I had a coworker once who talked about her boyfriend Dougal, and she said it to rhyme google. I don't really like how it sounds.

That's the only way I've ever heard it said

My first thought is a tv programme shown in the uk originally in the 60s and 70s but it had a lot of reruns. The show was called The Magic Roundabout and Dougal was a long eared Skye Terrier.

Hi !!!I like it!
It seems very manly, strong, outdoorsy and brave. The only Dougal I "met" was Dougal MacKenzie, a fictional character in 'Outlander'.

I think it's a very handsome name for a dog.It has a fun sound and I think the right guy could pull it off. There's always the more subdued Doug to fall back on. Dougal is a lot friendlier than Douglas.

It would be good on a beagle, because beagles can be such clowns and Dougal just has a funny sound to it. Like someone playing with a kazoo.
