Cindy as a first name brings up two images to me: a cute but often annoying little girl with pigtails (Cindy Brady) or a perky blond cheerleader.
I don’t really care for it as a first name but it’s fine as a nickname for Lucinda or Cynthia.

Don't like it.

I find Cindy pretty boring in itself, but Cynthia and Lucinda are nice. I'd love to find out that a Cindy is actually a Capucine or Hyacinth or Jacinth or something.

I bought a purebred (Siamese) cat once who had to have an L name. Her face was delightfully wicked, with evil, slanting eyes and I wanted her name to fit that ... but with an L? The best I could come up with was Lucinda, to be known as Cindy, Cin (or Sin) for short. She was a very pleasant little cat, not at all evil, and the cuteness of Cindy suited her. But, the down side for me was a very beautiful woman I knew, the eldest of four sisters. They were all known by their full names except the third one: she was Lucinda, and was the only one who was not beautiful: no worse than plain, but compared to the rest, plain wasn't good. And the eldest sister, smiling pleasantly, explained that she was known as Cindy "because we couldn't call her Lucy" - which they obviously considered pretty, dainty, uber-feminine ... I felt quite ill.

Ugh...What a horrible family. With friends or family like that, who needs enemies?

My feelings exactlyOn a somewhat brighter note: I knew a girl at uni who would have been pretty but for her severe acne. It turned out that she - a blue-eyed blonde with cheekbones - had a dark-haired, round-faced twin. Let's call them Camilla and Sarah. Someone else's mother came to collect her after school one day, and the twins were there with several others, all about ten years old, one of whom said "These are Camilla and Sarah, Mrs Mother; they're twins; Camilla's the pretty one" and the mother, without batting an eyelid, turned to Sarah and said "Hello, Camilla".
