It's a surname.

I like Gray as a MN. I think as a FN it's a tad boring and could easily be misheard as Grace.

Gray has gray eyes (it's the first thing you notice about him, they're like looking into a floating storm cloud), black hair and loves to play violin. His full name is Gray David Lockwood and he dislikes most breakfast food. He says he doesn't like the taste, but it's really because his father announced he was leaving when Gray was eating breakfast.

He's brooding, unaware of it, and is notorious for stonewalling people. He can't help it, he just doesn't believe that people would genuinely want to know him. Parents divorced when he was 5, he's got nothing in common with his dad but loves and wants his approval nonetheless even though he's in his mid twenties.
His mum is a different story, she tries and she can be sweet, but she's got her own demons to work through.

Gray has an older brother, Ashley Bennett. Ashley's fun and tries not to take himself too seriously. Ashley is also engaged to Gray's ex.

As a middle name, it makes a name sound slightly cartoony to me, like a Victorian novel caricature, so that makes it slightly more interesting, although it also feels like "the male Grace" - rather filler, lacking in spirit.

If you’re not going to use Gray as a middle, Grayson as a first is better. I love Gray as a middle, as a first it’s dull. It’s fits either gender.

It's our middle name choice for a boy - Silas Gray. I really like it (obviously) but it's too close to the increasingly popular Grayson for me to use as a first name. I do think it sounds handsome, a nice middle point between rugged and gentle.

I knew a guy named Gray a few years ago. It was his middle name but he was always called Gray. I like it. It's handsome and distinguished.
