Most of the Patricks I know go by their full names. Really nice people, too... like all of them. It is a likeable name to me for that reason, though sonically and phonetically I don’t really care for it.

I know a Patrick who goes by Rick. I like this name, but I think it'll remind people of Patrick Star from SpongeBob SquarePants. Though, I think Patrick is a perfectly fine name. If you're up for it, I love the combination Patrick Richard.

I like Patrick, it's low-key but not plain. Fortunately, Pat seems to have gone out of fashion as a nn for young Patricks, and Paddy was never a thing in the US, I don't think.
Rick makes a good nn, but I don't know any Patricks who go by it. I do know a John Eric and a Frederick who go by Rick.
