Regarding gender, I only like it on a boy.

I only love it for a boy. For a girl, it's a bit...sitcommy? I think of a stock 90s TV character for some reason.

As a nickname, sure. As an actual name, only for a boy. I do love Jewel.

As a full name, I much prefer Jewel on a girl. There are actually a couple Jewel's at the school where I teach. I think Jules works well as a feminine nickname too.

I love this as a male given name best, but as a unisex name I like it ok. It's cute as a nickname for Juli- names.

Strictly nickname; strictly Brit in my experience.
