Ithell
A friend of mine brought the surrealist artist and occultist Ithell Colquhoun to my attention today, and I'm in love with her name. I don't think it's a unique spelling of Ethel although I love that it coincides with that idea. I think it might be a variation of a Welsh name (Ithel), or maybe a surname? She was named Margaret Ithell after her mother Georgia Frances Ithell Manley. What do you think of Ithell?

I like Ithell! It stands out, but it still has the look of an established name even though this is the first i've heard of it.I like Ithell, Ethel, and Ithel for much of the same reasons. E's and I's often make for a good look and sound in shorter names, especially with that -el ending. I'd prefer Ithell used as its own name or as a variant of Ithel, as opposed to as a variant of Ethel, especially if the origins truly are different - but it's not like you can tell a namer's intention about that kind of thing unless they outright say it, anyway.

Prettier than Ethel, very nice. The artist is cool too, just looked her up.
