It's partly a pronunciation thing. Where I live, it's EEVlin, and I quite like it; if I wanted a daughter with that kind of name, I'd go straight for Eve. I've liked all the Eve and Evelyn people I've known, plus I had an Eva aunt (which I don't like much, I'd still prefer Eve).I don't much enjoy the sound of Éibhleann, and its appearance is against it too! Aveline ... never met one, but I'd guess at AYVlin. What would it shorten to - Avie, rhymes with Navy? Not very appealing.I settled on the Scottish top 10 because it contained Emily. So I cheated - so what? Emily has been a favourite of mine long before it was anyone else's favourite, and I'm sticking to it!
