Love, unisex.
I really like Cairo for a boy. I have mucked around with the idea of using it as a fn (Cairo Jonathan or Cairo Alexander) but somehow I just don't like it enough to use it. Even though I love the nn Cai and I generally love names ending in -o, meaning Cairo should be a high favourite, I always put it way at the bottom of my list. So basically I love it in theory but not so much in practice. Hence, I've recently moved it into GP territory.
The only Cairo I've ever known was a very handsome golden Labrador. He belonged to a friend, and I've still got a scar on my arm because I stopped tickling his ears, and he patted me to remind me he was still there. Nice animal, and I wear the scar with pride and affection; don't see the name on a human, though.
This particular friend has a habit of naming her animals after places she's visited. She also had a Tokyo at one time; also a Lab, this time a female.

Happy 100th post :)
I like the name Cairo, it's strong.
