Re: Carmel?
in reply to a message by Kit
Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the name of the main Catholic church in my town, which has existed for over 100 years (it's old for our area). Basically a fixture in the community. My grandparents took me to Mass there for a time, and I've attended weddings and funerals there. So this is a name I don't merely associate with a religion (Roman Catholicism), but a specific house of worship.Outside of the church, though, I always want to pronounce this kahr-MEL (instead of KAHR-məl). This is likely due to the fact that I've known quite a few women named Carmella (very Italian area), but also because it prevents the association with caramel. That said, I find Carmen to be most usable as a name today, as Carmella rings a little dated.***Please rate my personal name lists:www.behindthename.com/pnl/69381
