Following Elizabeth's nicknames:
This, from a needlepoint site, apropos of a canvas with a design of cows:"My great grandfather had two cows named Bessie and Elsie. He named his daughters after them!"

One of my great grandmothers was Bessie. It seems such a shame Bessie has come to remind people of cows.

That's sweet. I bet he loved his cows very much, or at least thought they made decent names.

A few years ago, I'd have probably said the opposite. But I prefer Bess/Bessie over Elsie. I'm not sure when or why that happened. But I don't think of cows. I think of "Good Queen Bess", Queen Elizabeth I, which gives it more character than Elsie in my opinion. Elsie is darling, too, though. I just like Bessie more.

Oof, not sure how I would feel being named after a cow tbh. Though Elsie is a decent enough name I am not a huge fan of Bessie myself idky.

If I had to choose between these two nicknames, I would choose Elsie, because it sounds more elegant than Bessie. I prefer the nicknames Lisbeth, Beth, Elise, Elisa and Lise. They sound sweeter and more delicate to me.
Bessie is a very cow-ish name.
