Oh, I didn't know it was never popular in the US. It was popular enough that it seems slightly dated to me (though not as much as Brittany seems dated).I like it, seems spunky. The one I know was born in 1990 and all her siblings have biblical names.
The vibe I get is a little like Naomi + Annabel ÷ 2.
Or Elizabeth + Brittany ÷ 2.
Or Rebecca + Kathleen ÷ 2.Maybe it was only moderately popular because it was competing with uber popular names like Elizabeth (which was more traditional/familiar) and Brittany (which was more fashionable/trendy). Bethany was the more obscure religious option and/or quirkier one of the group.
