Ella
I never really liked Ella at all and thought it was weak, insubstantial and flimsy. But now I'm reading "Ella Enchanted" and even though I'm still not crazy about the name I don't hate it quite as much anymore. What are your thoughts on Ella?Do you think you would like it more if it weren't so popular and hadn't been used by so many celebrities? It seems to have been THE celebrity baby name of the late 90s, and the book came out in 1997 so must have inspired quite a few Ellas as well.

I like it better than Elle or Ellie but it’s so trendy and popular now that I probably wouldn’t use it.

I think it's fun in a jazzy sort of way.

I love Ella! It's short, sweet, pretty and cute, I don't care if it's popular. (Also, I've never read "Ella Enchanted", so my opinion isn't swayed because of that.)

Growing up in the '90's I don't remember knowing any Ella's. I only know one child named that now. My niece is named Ariella and we call her Ella. I really like it.

I love El-names but Ella I just can’t warm up to. I find it so incredibly meh. Elisabeth, Ellie, Elle, Ellinor, Eleonore etc. I love them.Ella does nothing for me.

You nailed it with your first sentence. And no, I would not like it more if it weren't so popular (I'm not aware of celebrity use). It has nothing to offer.

I don't like it either, I actually don't like many names that start with El- as it just isn't a sound that seems to appeal to me. I do get what people see in Ella though: simple and diverse. But I don't think I will ever like it.

I like it but I don't love it, it is very girly. I prefer Eleanor NN Ella/Ellie

Ella Enchanted is delightful! Ella as a name is about as dull, bland and forgettable as Emma.

I love Ella Fitzgerald but the name itself is just blegh. It's so flimsy.I suggested the following to Pelops the other day:Ella Simone
Ella Jamesina
Ella MadeleineYou could also go with:Ella Justine
Ella Margot
Ella Samantha
Ella Rosamund

I second this.

Ella is fine, but way too girly. I prefer Elle, but that's also too girly.
I wish Ella wasn't a celebrity baby name, but whatever.
I doesn't seem too popular these days, I only know two Ellas (one of them being my horse), but idk.

I never really had a problem with the name Ella. I prefer Ella over Elle, but neither is bad. I do hate how trendy it is though.
