Kimberly (Nicknames, spelling)
What are your thoughts on your name? What is your preferred moniker (besides the obvious Kim)? I really like the flow of full name spelled our Kimberleigh for a daughter, but detest Kim,Kimmy,or Kimber as nicknames (though I know from experience people will use them) I like Quinn as a middle name also, so combined them to get Kinnly?

Kimberly always looks like a spelling error. The South African town, Kimberley, was named after a British government minister, so the -ey version works as both a lnfn and a place name.
I dislike the name: the town is unattractive, poorly run and impoverished, the sound of the full name is pretty ordinary, and as nns go, Kim is very bland and dated.
Kimberleigh is worse, however. It looks like an attempt at originality by a young teenager. Kinnly looks like a typo for Kindly, which doesn't help. I hope you will have changed your mind before you have a daughter.

I like Kimberly but don't much like Kim. Kimberleigh is unnecessarily complicated, there's no good reason for her to have to spell out her name all the time for people, and Kimberleigh looks like the name of a stereotypical mean dumb girl in an eighties teen movie.
Kinnley is one of those bland faux-surname names that are popular right now. Kinley and Brylee and Lakin and Ensley. Blah.
My sil has a sil named Kimberly who is never called Kim, she's always Kimberly. So Kim isn't inevitable.
